Though earwax doesn’t cause any harm, most people remove it for aesthetic reasons. Sometimes it may become necessary to clean the ear off wax for a variety of reasons like infections, loss of hearing or excess wax buildup. However, earwax is definitely important for the heath of the ear. The wax protects the sensitive eardrum from dirt. The wax also protects the ear canal and keeps it moistened and clean. There are also numerous studies that show that earwax has antibacterial and antifungal properties. So, unless the wax doesn’t cause any irritation, it is recommended not to remove it. If there is excessive buildup of earwax that leads to blockage, then the ear should be cleaned or it can cause itchiness, pain and sometimes hearing loss. You can clean your ear at home, but caution is advised. The ear canal and eardrum is very sensitive and can be easily damaged even by a harmless looking thing like a cotton swab. - Grind an onion and strain out the juice. Take one tablespoon of the juice and warm it. Apply this into your ear and after sometime wash with warm water.
- You can flush out earwax using a saline spray or water at room temperature. You can use these to clean up the ear canal daily.
